If you've listened to Episode 5: "A Glimpse Inside the Reserve Toolbelt" and/or completed the worksheet, you know a little bit about controlled burning, a management tool used here in the Southeast. I volunteer at Congaree National Park (Hopkins, SC), where trained individuals recently performed a controlled burn. Here are some pictures of what burned sections look like the day after! The forest floor is less cluttered, nutrients are being returned to the soil, and all sorts of other good things are at work amongst the pines.
